SW1P, Where We Live

Hide Tower
We live in one of the pre-eminent postcodes in London; SW1, it extends from the established grandeur of the Belgravia Estate to the rejuvenated environs of Westminster and Pimlico.

Hide Tower where we live is a landmark building of 160 flats over 20 floors built by Westminster City Council, and completed 1962.

Overlooking Vincent Square, to the west and the Houses of Parliament to the north east the building of Hide Tower began in 1959 and was completed in 1962 it has 23 floors and 162 flats, built by the local council and was designed by architects Stillman and Eastwick-Field.

It was constructed on the site of a nursery, and where the garden is now there used to be a row of small terraced houses, one or two of our elderly residents were born and raised in these houses.

Most of the apartments/flats have stunning views of the London skyline including many of London’s illustrious sights you know there are not many people can say that you can cook and see Big Ben at the same time.

The complex has an arrangement of trees on the site including a private flower garden and a community hall for resident meetings. Approximately a quarter of the accommodation is privately rented; the other half is rented from Westminster City Council and the remainder is owner occupied. The name derives from "hide", an old English land measure (used in the Domesday Survey of 1086).

The nearest London Underground stations are Westminster, Pimlico, and Victoria. London Victoria is also a National Rail main line terminus and nearby is the national coach station.
